Scope and Contents

This collection includes three scrapbooks containing reproductions from magazines ca. 1918-1922. The scrapbooks were compiled by the Anderson sisters, Jessie, Dorothy, Martha (Rivers), and Mary (Van Renssalear). The books used by the sisters were previously fabric sample books from which they had ordered clothing that was produced in both St. Louis and Chicago. The women filled the books with clippings of illustrations from the 1920s era.

This collection contains the Black Position Paper of 1968, the Black Manifesto of 1968, and correspondence with Chancellor Thomas H. Eliot concerning these documents and goals.  Also included are documents relating the Brookings protest and other documents created by the student group.  The collection also contains documents detailing action taken in 1978 and 1998 by the Association of Black Students and the administrators of Washington University.
